Modern Pilates has been developed by Cherry Baker

Modern Pilates is a modern approach to the Pilates based exercises. It uses
a combination of stability techniques used in physiotherapy and traditional
Pilates exercises.
The program of exercises is designed to develop balance throughout the body,
creating strong and stable muscles that are also flexible and correctly
aligned.
Pilates training can be done with Innovative Fitness either as one on one sessions, small semi private classes or in normal classes. For class times and venues please click here.

The origins of Pilates
Joseph Pilates was born in 1880 in Düsseldorf, Joseph was a frail, sickly child who suffered from rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever. Determined to over come his frailty and instead of following one specific fitness program he experimented with many different approaches including yoga, gymnastics, skiing, self defence, dance, circus training and weight training which all influenced him. He chose aspects of each to develop his own body. By combining part of these methods Joseph Pilates was able to work out a system that had perfect balance of strength and flexibility. Haven proven his techniques on his own body, he began to apply them to other. Many of hi early trainees were war veterans with horrific injuries from World War One. In 1926 he emigrated to America where he set up a studio in New York which soon attracted top ballet dancers, actors, gymnastics and athletes. Joseph Pilates wrote several books on fitness, the exercises reflected his very advanced clientele in his studio.
Pilates never set up an official training program with the result that many of his disciples went on to teach their own versions of his method. The definition of true Pilates is blurred and is still being debated. Joseph himself rarely taught the same exercises in the same way two days running, because he geared his teaching to the individual. Joseph Pilates died at the age of 87 as a result of fire in his studio.

Personal training is for those who find it hard to workout
on their own, for those people who are frustrated with big noisy and
impersonal gyms and for people with busy hectic schedules that find it hard
to find time in their life to exercise.
Personal training is for everyone, whether your goals are being able to walk
to the shops and back without being breathless to those who have specific
fitness goals and requirements.
A typical session involves a trainer coming to your house.
They will bring the equipment which is required for your session. They will
take you through the session and go through any health issues or questions
you may have. At the end of the session they will go through any things
which need to be adjusted to the workout ready for the next session.
A sessions frequency is completely up to the individual, it can be done once
a week or more, fortnightly, once a month or as many times as you wish to
see a trainer.
Sessions can also be done in couples or small groups. Please contact us for
further details.
All clients are treated as individuals and therefore have their own
portfolio containing a specially designed fitness and health program, goals
and objectives plus other information such as nutritional advice. We also
continue monitoring your progress around our sessions together by follow up
calls and also writing programs that can be done on your own at home or even
in some cases at work if flexibility issues are a concern.
Most programs will contain a variety of components such as:
Postural analysis
Flexibility
Nutritional breakdown and balancing
Core stability
Strength
Improved stamina

This service we provide involves a detailed look at your body alignment and posture. We will carryout a full posture analysis, followed by muscle balance test to see if the muscles are shortened or lengthened. From the results of the analysis and muscle balance tests a series of stretched, exercises and functional exercises will be prescribed to improve alignment and posture. You will receive a full written report and guidance for you to improve your posture and the direction which would be best suited to you.
